Airborne model overview¶
The EMOD airborne model is little more than a shim to provide a transmission mode layer simulation type between the generic model and the TBHIV model. A handful of configuration parameters differ between the generic model and the airborne model, but no significant features are introduced by this simulation type. To use the airborne model, set the configuration parameter Simulation_Type to AIRBORNE_SIM.
To simulate the transmission of airborne diseases such as influenza or measles, you may choose to use the airborne model or the generic model. Because most airborne diseases do not transmit via infectious material that remains suspended in the air for a substantial time, the contact-based transmission mode used by the generic model can adequately simulate airborne disease transmission.
