HumanHostSeekingTrap#
The HumanHostSeekingTrap intervention class applies a trap that attracts and kills host-seeking mosquitoes in the simulation. Human-host-seeking traps are individually-distributed interventions that have attraction and killing rates that decay in an analogous fashion to the blocking and killing rates of bednets.
An artificial diet diverts the vector from feeding on the human population, resulting in a two-fold benefit:
The uninfected mosquitoes avoid biting infected humans some of the time, therefore decreasing the amount of human-to-vector transmission.
Infectious vectors are diverted to feed on artificial diet instead of humans, therefore decreasing the amount of vector-to-human transmission.
At a glance:
Distributed to: Individuals
Serialized: Yes, if it has been distributed to a person.
Uses insecticides: No
Time-based expiration: No
Purge existing: Yes. If a new intervention is added to to the individual, the existing intervention of the same name is removed when the new one is added.
Vector killing contributes to: Indoor Die Before Feeding
Vector effects: Artificial Diet feed instead of Human or Animal Feed
Vector sexes affected: Females only
Vector life stage affected: Adult
Note
Parameters are case-sensitive. For Boolean parameters, set to 1 for true or 0 for false. Minimum, maximum, or default values of “NA” indicate that those values are not applicable for that parameter.
EMOD does not use true defaults; that is, if the dependency relationships indicate that a parameter is required, you must supply a value for it. However, many of the tools used to work with EMOD will use the default values provided below.
JSON format does not permit comments, but you can add “dummy” parameters to add contextual information to your files. Any keys that are not EMOD parameter names will be ignored by the model.
The table below describes all possible parameters with which this class can be configured. The JSON example that follows shows one potential configuration.

The configuration of attraction efficacy and waning for human host-seeking trap. This determines what fraction of host-seeking vectors that day are attracted to the trap instead of finding a human to feed on. Specify how this effect decays over time using one of the Waning effect classes. |

[] |
A list of IndividualProperty key:value pairs that cause an intervention to be aborted (persistent interventions will stop being distributed to individuals with these values). See NodeProperties and IndividualProperties parameters for more information. Generally used to control the flow of health care access. For example, to prevent the same individual from accessing health care via two different routes at the same time. |

If an individual’s container has an intervention, set to true (1) to prevent them from receiving another copy of the intervention. Supported by all intervention classes. |

The configuration of killing efficacy and waning for human host-seeking trap. Only vectors attracted to the trap by the Attract_Config settings are targeted by the Killing_Config. Specify how this effect decays over time using one of the Waning effect classes. |

“” |
An optional IndividualProperty key:value pair that will be assigned when the intervention is applied. See NodeProperties and IndividualProperties parameters for more information. Generally used to indicate the broad category of health care cascade to which an intervention belongs to prevent individuals from accessing care through multiple pathways. For example, if an individual must already be taking a particular medication to be prescribed a new one. |
