InputEIR#

The InputEIR intervention class enables the Entomological Inoculation Rate (EIR) to be configured either for each month or for each day of the year in a particular node. The EIR is the number of infectious mosquito bites received in a night. This number is usually calculated by taking the number of mosquito bites received per night and multiplying them by the proportion of those bites that are positive for sporozoites.

The probability of an individual becoming infected from the each ‘infectious bite’ will be affected by Age_Dependent_Biting_Risk_Type and Enable_Demographics_Risk settings, as well as any AcquisitionBlocking vaccines that an individual may have received.

Vector control interventions will not affect the EIR delivered by this intervention.

If vectors are included when this class is implemented, this will add the EIR specified for that month or day in addition to the EIR provided by the vectors. Note that the Daily EIR channel in the InsetChart will not be impacted by this intervention.

When distributing InputEIR to a node that already has an existing InputEIR intervention, the existing intervention will be purged and replaced with the new intervention.

Note: Age_Dependence parameter has been removed from this intervention (EMOD v2.28, emod-malaria v0.77). Age dependent biting risk is now controlled by the Age_Dependent_Biting_Risk_Type parameter in the config file, same as for vector biting.

At a glance:

  • Distributed to: Nodes

  • Serialized: No, it needs to be redistributed when starting from a serialized file.

  • Uses insecticides: Does Not Apply

  • Time-based expiration: No.

  • Purge existing: Yes. Adding a new intervention of this class will overwrite an existing intervention of the same class.

  • Vector killing contributes to: Does Not Apply

  • Vector effects: Does Not Apply

  • Vector sexes affected: Does Not Apply

  • Vector life stage affected: Does Not Apply

Note

Parameters are case-sensitive. For Boolean parameters, set to 1 for true or 0 for false. Minimum, maximum, or default values of “NA” indicate that those values are not applicable for that parameter.

EMOD does not use true defaults; that is, if the dependency relationships indicate that a parameter is required, you must supply a value for it. However, many of the tools used to work with EMOD will use the default values provided below.

JSON format does not permit comments, but you can add “dummy” parameters to add contextual information to your files. Any keys that are not EMOD parameter names will be ignored by the model.

The table below describes all possible parameters with which this class can be configured. The JSON example that follows shows one potential configuration.

Disqualifying_Properties

array of strings

NA

NA

[]

A list of NodeProperty key:value pairs that cause an intervention to be aborted (persistent interventions will stop being distributed to nodes with these values). See NodeProperties and IndividualProperties parameters for more information. Generally used to control the flow of health care access. For example, to prevent the same individual from accessing health care via two different routes at the same time.

EIR_Type

enum

NA

MONTHLY

Specifies the frequency of the EIR read-in: options are ‘MONTHLY’ (default) or ‘DAILY’.

NA

NA

InputEIR

The optional name used to refer to this intervention as a means to differentiate it from others that use the same class.

Monthly_EIR

array of floats

0

1000

NA

An array of exactly 12 elements that contain an entomological inoculation rate (EIR) for each month. Each value should be between 0 and 1000, there is no default. Note that the ‘current month’ is based on the time since the intervention was distributed, and there will be a 12-month repeating pattern from the day it’s distributed. Used when EIR_Type is set to ‘MONTHLY’.

An optional NodeProperty key:value pair that will be assigned when the intervention is applied. See NodeProperties and IndividualProperties parameters for more information.
