Larvicides#
The Larvicides intervention class is a node-level intervention that configures habitat reduction for mosquito breeding sites that are poisoned by larvicides. This intervention accommodates sprayed areas and vector-transported larvicides where resting surfaces may be treated not just with IRSHousingModification to kill mosquitoes, but also with particles that can be dispersed by mosquitoes to poison larval development sites. In particular, a relatively small fraction of resting events may result in a relatively large fraction of larval habitat.
At a glance:
Distributed to: Nodes
Serialized: No, it needs to be redistributed when starting from a serialized file.
Uses insecticides: Yes. The vector genome can be used to target specific genders.
Time-based expiration: No. It will continue to exist even if efficacy is zero.
Purge existing: Yes. If a new intervention is added to to the node, the existing intervention of the same name is removed when the new one is added.
Vector killing contributes to: Combines with competition and rainfall to kill larvae every time step.
Vector effects: Killing
Vector sexes affected: Both males and females
Vector life stage affected: Larval
Note
Parameters are case-sensitive. For Boolean parameters, set to 1 for true or 0 for false. Minimum, maximum, or default values of “NA” indicate that those values are not applicable for that parameter.
EMOD does not use true defaults; that is, if the dependency relationships indicate that a parameter is required, you must supply a value for it. However, many of the tools used to work with EMOD will use the default values provided below.
JSON format does not permit comments, but you can add “dummy” parameters to add contextual information to your files. Any keys that are not EMOD parameter names will be ignored by the model.
The table below describes all possible parameters with which this class can be configured. The JSON example that follows shows one potential configuration.

Disqualifying_Properties |
array of strings |
NA |
NA |
[] |
A list of NodeProperty key:value pairs that cause an intervention to be aborted (persistent interventions will stop being distributed to nodes with these values). See NodeProperties and IndividualProperties parameters for more information. Generally used to control the flow of health care access. For example, to prevent the same individual from accessing health care via two different routes at the same time. |

Habitat_Target |
enum |
NA |
NA |
NONE |
The larval habitat type targeted for larvicide. This is a required parameter. NONE is the default to ensure the user selects it. If not ALL_HABITATS, then the type must be one of those configured in Vector_Species_Params, Habitats. See Larval habitat parameters for more information. Possible values are:
|
{
"Habitat_Target": "WATER_VEGETATION"
}
|
Insecticide_Name |
string |
NA |
NA |
UNINITIALIZED STRING |
The name of the insecticide defined in the configuration parameter Insecticides for this intervention. If insecticides are being used, this must be defined as one of those values; if they are not being used this can be empty. It cannot have a value if you did not configure the configuration parameter Insecticides. |
